Virtual reality PTSD treatment for veterans

Published 21 October 2019, 07:36

Virtual reality can be used to assist veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

It involves a patient walking on a treadmill in front of the screen and projects an image depicting the type of trauma experienced.

A two-year study found that some patients improved their symptoms by almost 40%.

This treatment, known as 3MDR, was led by Professor Jon Bisson at Cardiff University.

“We are helping individuals overcome evasion by walking toward a treadmill picture that is very difficult to avoid. Remove evasion to help individuals handle traumatic memory. I know I need it. "
