History of the Metaverse

Since Facebook announced it was rebranding to Meta and would focus its future on the upcoming “metaverse,” that term means hasn’t gotten any more straightforward. Some companies offer up little more than broken game worlds that have NFTs attached, while others offer virtual reality social platforms.

Did you know history of Metaverse? The Metaverse is still being built, so it makes sense that no one has a clear idea of it. The Internet existed in the 1970s, but not every thought about how it would develop was true.

There’s a lot of marketing hype and money wrapped up in the idea of “the metaverse,” but it’s not just Facebook that stands to make a buck. Apple’s move to limit ad tracking has also hit its bottom line. It’s impossible to separate Facebook’s vision of a future where everyone has a digital wardrobe to swipe through because Facebook wants to sell virtual clothes. But Facebook isn’t the only company that stands to benefit from metaverse hype financially.

So, here is the history of Metaverse, from 1989 to right now.

1989 – The Birth of the Internet

The Internet is a computer network that connects electronic media with others globally. This connection can occur with phones and satellites according to communication standards. The Internet has become one of the future media in the Metaverse, and its birth is worth remembering because it led to the development of a truly interconnected world.

1992 – The First Metaverse Term

Neal released “Snow Crash,” a Novel that mentioned the Metaverse. This novel tells about a human as an avatar who can interact in a 3d virtual world.
In Neal’s version, the Metaverse is a virtual space that connects all virtual worlds through the Internet and augmented reality.

2003 – Second Life

The scientist Philip Rosedale and their team, Liden, Lab-created an online virtual world called Second Life. Second Life is Metaverse Games where you, as an avatar, can do anything activities in real life. Such as watching a movie, buying or selling stuff, listening to music, playing games, etc.

2006 – Roblox

Games Online named Roblox had introduced. In these games, users can create their virtual game world. Roblox is an online game platform that allows users to program and play games created by other users. Roblox is free to play. You can access it through a virtual currency called Robux.

2009 – Bitcoin

An anonymous developer or group of developers using Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency and blockchain in 2009. This virtual currency is used for transactions in Metaverse, such as buying their avatar’s clothes, buying a land, etc.

2011 – Metaverse Concept

Ernest Cline wrote a novel titled Ready Player One. Ready Player One tells about when the virtual reality creator named OASIS died. He released a challenging video for all OASIS users to find a hidden egg. Wade Watts has seen the first clue and tries to find the hidden contents of the egg.

2014 – Oculus

Facebook has recognized hardware and Platform Virtual Reality named Oculus as one of the essential aspects of Metaverse. Oculus was founded by Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov, and Nate Mitchell. It’s is the Virtual Reality headset industry. Oculus is a division of Meta Platforms that produces virtual reality devices and digital services. It can give you a different experience while playing a game.

2015 – Decentraland

Decentraland is a virtual world and community based on blockchain. You can build your virtual environment and perform its activities. Not only making a virtual environment, but you can also sell or rent using a cryptocurrency called NAMA.

2016 – Pokemon Go

Metaverse Games was released named Pokemon Go. Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game on smartphones developed by Niantic, a Google-owned subsidiary, available for iOS and Android devices. Its game can show an object that doesn’t exist in real life, but it feels like it exists in real life.

2017 – Fortnite

After Pokemon Go, the next Metaverse Games was Fortnite. Fortnite is a video game by Farga Corporation with numerous game modes for every type of game player. Watch a concert, build an island, or fight.

2018 – Axie Infinity

Vietnam Sky Mavis studio developed Metaverse Game named Axie Infinity. Axie Infinity is an online video game based on NFT that users can use to fight, build, and hunt for treasure. Each Axie is unique and has qualities and strengths.

2021 – Microsoft and Facebook

Facebook and Microsoft have collaborated to develop the Metaverse. Facebook released a platform designed for virtual collaboration named Mesh, and Microsoft has changed the company name to Meta. They also reveal their plan to focus on developing the Metaverse.
